Extra Stuffs - Science

Hello gentlemen,

1) http://science.howstuffworks.com/light-bulb2.htm
It has a picture of a light bulb which explains the different structures in it.

Birds' eggs have five important parts.
The most important is the germinal disc.
This is found inside the yolk and is the cell nucleus
from which the young bird would have developed
if the egg had been fertilised.
Commercially produced eggs for eating
are never fertilised.

Where would hens NORMALLY find oyster shells to eat then? Go swimming, ah? Does this mean that all hens who are not in "cultivated areas" (ie. not on farms) would produce eggs that have no shells? Can't be lah.
